Googlers@Westbourne

Thanks to Dr Noël, members of Google's Sydney team came to Westbourne to speak with our DP1 students in Term 4 as part of the Westbourne Guest Speaker Programme. They shared information about their careers in STEM and the idea of CS+X - the importance of applying computer science (CS) to other disciplines (X) to solve real world problems.

About our Guest Googlers:

Malcolm Holden

Malcolm leads the Solutions and Technology practice for Google Cloud in Australia and New Zealand, working closely with customers and partners to identify and solve their toughest challenges with Google Cloud technologies. Malcolm’s experience is wide-ranging across industries and products and has an enthusiasm for inspiring people to explore new ways of working.

Feiyue Tao

Feiyue knows what it takes to get into the STEM industry. As a a recent graduate who joined the Google Photos team in July, her hard efforts as an intern last summer paid off as she grew her network and transitioned to a full-time role as Software Engineer, working on Photos iOS mobile application development. Driven by her passion in human-computer interaction, Feiyue changed from her Mechanical Engineering degree to major in User Experience Design and Software Development, then worked on Masters research in Web Interface Design in Augmented Reality.

Their experience was a wealth of knowledge for our DP1 students who learnt that growth and development is over time, and that they can pursue newfound passions along the way of their careers.
