When the past meets the present

On Monday 1 August 2022, our DP1 students had the opportunity to speak with Mark Rosen, a Westbourne alumnus from the late 1970s. He attended as a student of Westbourne House School (at that time a 5-16 boys' school) where our very own Principal Ken Underhill was the Head of School in years to come.

Since then, Mark has gone on to graduate from Oxford and Harvard Universities before enjoying a stellar career. He has spent over 30 years in investment banking. In 2018 President Trump appointed him from the Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he was an executive, to be the next U.S. executive director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), a post he held for two years.

Mark counselled our students about the need for positive ambition, a focus on academic studies and the need to be an all-rounder - perfect attributes for IB Diploma students.

At the end of the session Mark took questions from three students: Nikita, Zoe and Tom who asked perceptive questions respecting the current international economic context. He commented on the quality of the questions and how well the students had explained themselves.

It is a delight to see our alumnus share their valuable wisdom and expertise.

We’re looking forward to seeing who will be next!
