Study Hard, Play Hard

As the inaugural year for Westbourne College came to an end, both IB1 students and staff came together for a final day of school term.

The day began with Macy leading the way to a Netball game where the Westbourne Social Netballers displayed great sportsmanship, splitting themselves amongst the various teams. As soon as the first whistle sounded, the air was alive with college spirit. Those waiting to play, cheered from the sidelines which made everyone’s feet move that much faster.

Special mentions go to Dr K for taking aim as GS, Daisy (GD) for blocking Principal Ken’s shots and Macy’s leadership skills clearly demonstrated in this well-organised start to the day.

Upon returning to the college, a student-led assembly had everyone reflecting on the events and memories of the year. Through a presentation created by Julia, 2021 at Westbourne College was seen to have made an impact for many. New friendships had formed and individual talents were uncovered, including Hugo’s magical talent (how did he make that coin disappear?!). However, it was the solidarity of the entire group that stood out. Each student was awarded individually and then this same appreciation was extended to the teachers for having seen them through the pandemic days that impacted their first senior year.

After a bite of pizza lunch, we finished off the day with exchanging Secret Santa. What started off with the intention to “steal” a gift from each other, the students showed great respect and decided to keep their presents. Except for one. Any guesses what was “stolen” from our Physics and Maths teacher, Noel?

In short, 2021 at Westbourne College was simply unforgettable… all thanks to both students and teachers!
